Your speaking test with Ivy

Hi! This is how your English speaking test works. You talk. Ivy the owl listens. Your teacher can read this page to you.

Get ready

  • Use a tablet or a computer with a microphone.
  • Sit in a quiet place.
  • Speak in English.
  • You do not need an email or a password.

Sign in

With your class code

  1. Tap I'm a student.
  2. Type your class code. Your teacher has it. It has 6 letters and numbers.
  3. Tap Go!
  4. Find your picture and your name. Tap it.
  5. Tap your 4 secret pictures, in the right order. You can tap Undo or Start over.

Did you see "Oops! Try again!"? Try again, slowly. Did you see "Let's take a little break"? Ask your teacher for help.

With your QR card

  1. Your teacher gives you a card with a QR code.
  2. Scan the card with the tablet camera.
  3. Do you see your name? Tap Yes, that's me!

Keep your card safe. Do not share your secret pictures.

Find your test

Tap My tests. You see a card for each test.

  • Start: tap to begin.
  • Continue: tap to go on from where you stopped.
  • Waiting for teacher: your teacher is checking. Well done!
  • See my stars: your stars are ready!
  • Opens soon or Closed: you cannot take this test now.

Meet Ivy

Ivy says hello. Ivy shows you 4 steps: Listen, Get ready, Talk, Done! Tap Let's go!

Is it not your name at the top? Tap Not you? Sign out.

Say Hello!

Ivy checks the microphone.

  1. Tap Tap and say Hello!
  2. Say "Hello, Ivy!" in your normal voice.
  3. Ivy says I can hear you! Tap Next.

Can Ivy not hear you? Talk a little louder. Then tap Try again. Does the screen ask to use the microphone? Tap Allow.

Practise first

Ivy asks: "What is your name?" This one is just for fun. It does not count.

  1. Tap Start practice.
  2. Wait for the circle to go away.
  3. Say your name.
  4. Tap I'm done!
  5. Tap Start the real questions.

Answer the questions

Every question has 4 steps.

1. Listen

Ivy reads the question to you. Want to hear it again? Tap Listen again. It shows how many listens are left.

2. Get ready

You see Get ready… and a circle. Think about what you will say. Ready early? Tap I'm ready!

3. Talk

You see Your turn! Talk now. Ivy is listening. The bars move when you talk. Speak clearly, in English. Is Ivy saying Try speaking a little louder!? Speak up a little.

4. Done!

Finished talking? Tap I'm done! The button works after 3 seconds. When the circle is gone, Ivy stops listening by itself.

Then Ivy cheers for you. Tap Next question. The dots at the top show your questions. A green tick means done.

Finish

You see You did it! Tap Finish. Your answers go to your teacher. You are earning the Finisher badge!

See your stars

Your teacher checks your answers first. Then you get your stars.

  1. Tap My stars.
  2. Tap See my stars.

You can see:

  • your stars, from 1 to 5,
  • My badges,
  • Your teacher says: a message from your teacher,
  • Listen to yourself: your own answers.

No stars yet? Your teacher is still checking. Come back later!

Need help?

Tap I need help at the top of the screen. Your teacher sees it. The button says Your teacher knows! Stay in your seat. Your teacher will come.

  • "This test is open somewhere else": ask your teacher.
  • "Oops! This question can't start": tap Go to the next question.
  • The page closed by mistake? Sign in again. Tap Continue. You see Welcome back!

For parents

  • IGS Speaking is Ivy Global School's English speaking test for primary students. The questions come from your child's own lessons in ELA, Science, Social Studies and Math.
  • Children do not need an email. They sign in with a class code, their avatar and a picture password, or with a QR card from the teacher.
  • The app records only your child's voice. It never takes photos or video.
  • The recordings are used only for scoring. They are kept for up to 3 years and then deleted. You can ask for earlier deletion through your child's homeroom teacher or the school office.
  • AI suggests a score. A teacher checks it before your child sees any stars.
  • Your child's teacher can give you a one-page report card with stars, badges, a comment and ideas for practice at home.
  • Read the privacy policy to see what the school keeps, why, and when it is deleted.
